Founded in 1917, Berkeley Tennis Club is a diverse, low-key, affordable, member-owned tennis club in a quiet residential neighborhood just minutes from South Orange, Maplewood, Millburn, Livingston, West Orange and neighboring towns in Essex County, New Jersey, and with convenient train service to Manhattan.
A USTA-sanctioned club, Berkeley is one of the few with authentic red clay courts, which are meticulously maintained and open daily from mid-April to the end of October or beyond, weather permitting.

Please email us if you have any questions. We'd love to see you on the Berkeley courts!
Berkeley opened Wednesday April 17 after a bout of wet weather. Lines are down, nets are up. We groomed our unique red clay, freshened the clubhouse and attended to the many details and final touches to assure a smooth opening to a satisfying outdoor tennis season.
Members did a super job and had fun being together and outdoors on the April 13 Clean Up Day.
Looking forward to our first Open House on Saturday, April 27.

PLEASE JOIN US on Saturday, June 8 at our Open House from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM, weather permitting.
Rain date is Sunday, June 9.
Greetings,
Berkeley tennis is in the air! The weather is breaking and the days are getting a little longer. The 2013 tennis season begins mid-April and we are preparing for our members and guests.
I’m sure it will be another great year of red clay tennis. I know we all look forward to re-kindling those tennis friendships which for many have lasted years and look forward to greeting all new members.
Our mission remains to provide affordable club tennis in a central location to a membership who have been loyal for decades. A hidden jewel, with six immaculate red clay courts, Berkeley provides first rate tennis to the dedicated enthusiast.
We play morning, noon and evening, weekdays and weekends. Our members may play on Women's or Men's team, participate in our Ladder and Tournament, set up matches with each other and just stop by for conversation and a pickup game. We work on improving our game through lessons and clinics from our club pro.
We also look forward to developing our youth, so bring your sons, daughters and grandchildren to the club. They will be the next generation of Berkeley tennis players.
Welcome to the 2013 Berkeley Tennis experience.
Sincerely,
Michael A. Winds
President, Berkeley Tennis Club
BERKELEY'S WOMEN'S TEAM STARTS THE SEASON WITH A WIN! 3-1
by Robin Blackburn-Ellis
Last Wednesday, April 16, our women's team had their first match of the season at the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club down in Rumson. What a club! We saw plaques of tournament winners dating back to 1900. There were over 15 har tru courts with as many or more grass courts. Take a quick look at this historic club: http://sltcc.org/
Rumson was hit heavy by Hurricane Sandy. In fact we were told that most of the town had been under water. A few of us took a ride to the main street bordering the ocean and saw a lot of construction going on. Several players on the Sea Bright team had severe damage to their homes. But this day was a day of triumph for everyone. They didn't know if they were going to be open.
Berkeley took 3 of the 4 doubles matches. It was an exciting day for all. Great to be back playing tennis.
